THE WORKSHOPS
The Play is the Thing
From witches to fairies, love to feuds, this is a dynamic, high energy introduction and exploration of some of Shakespeare’s best known works and themes: improvisation, text movement, mime and more. This is a fun learning experience.
Improvisation
Students will learn the importance of group response and learn to see themselves as part of a whole. We think the best way to learn is through experience. In this workshop we stress many of the finer aspects of theatre work; facial expression, body language, spontaneity, creativity, voice, scene work and development.
To Laugh or Not to Laugh?
Fools, mistaken identity, mechanicals and yellow stockings are all ingredients for FUN which is the key word with this energetic workshop. Explore some of Shakespeare’s best known comedies and their most comedic moments, from The Comedy of Errors to A Midsummer Nights Dream and Twelfth Night (2 hour only.) This dynamic workshop will have students literally playing the Fool.
Stage Combat
This is an entertaining workshop for budding young thespians and novices alike. It teaches students the bare basics of stage combat; from sit falls, to hair pulls, punches and slaps, then puts their new found skills into a Shakespearian routine. Great for building focus, collaborative work, safety, discipline and technical skills.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Explore the magical worlds of the fairies, mechanicals, and lovers. This is a lively, exploration of one of Shakespeare’s best known plays. This is an active learning experience that can be adapted for different requirements.
Macbeth
Weird sisters, the supernatural, murder, envy and persuasion, this bloody and darkly passionate play comes to life in this workshop. Students will have fun as they consider and then stage elements of Macbeth. It is a kinaesthetic learning experience where students are up on their feet and producing from the start. This has proven to be a very popular SATs workshop.
Romeo and Juliet
Feuding, forbidden love and tragedy – ever popular themes that transcend time are central to this explosive and energetic workshop. With a modern slant, this vibrant workshop uses all the dramatic ingredients that will leave students exhilarated and wanting more Shakespeare.
The Tempest
The Tempest is the last complete play which Shakespeare is believed to have written. The students will explore the themes of Good vs. Evil, Power, Justice, Betrayal, Mercy and Magic while exploring the memorable characters of the spirit Ariel, the monster Caliban who both serve Prospero and his daughter Miranda.
Twelfth Night
From mistaken identity to teasing and sub plots, this spirited workshop brings this complex play to life and offers an overview of character, setting and language with particular emphasis on discovering subtext, which in turn allows students to build a comprehensive understanding of the play as whole.
